Liverpool Takeover Rumours

Where next for Liverpool Football Club? That's a question being asked by many of their loyal fans, as rumours spread that the club may soon to be taken over, providing a much-needed injection of finance.

Back in the Spring there were reports that a stake in the club was to be sold to the Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra. With the world-renowned club desperate to match former glories (and compete with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea) on the domestic front, the move was welcomed by some but others were sceptical.

The move was countered by local businessman (and long-time Reds fan) Steve Morgan - a seemingly popular character with the fans but who doesn't see eye-to-eye with current chairman David Moores.

With both those bids having failed, Thai media tycoon Paiboon Damrongchaitham stepped into the fray, with a bid thought to be in the region of £67m for a 30% share in the company.

The latest name to be linked is Hollywood film executive Mike Jefferies, who appears to be ready to form a consortium to buy the club. The Financial Times have reported the bid may come in at somewhere around the £100m mark.
